The load in your main panel isn't decided by the sub-panel main, it's decided by the actual loads in the garage. 10/3 UF, or 6-6-6-6 aluminum for the generator feeder. The 6-6-6-6 is 44A and cheap. I already applied the adjustment for 2 circuits in 1 conduit.

Running a feeder to a sub panel would include four wires, 2 hots, ground and neutral; if using metal conduit the entire run from main to sub the conduit can act as the ground. Then the ground and neutral will be separate in the sub panel.

Dec 3, 2024 · Ended up returning the QO panel, and installing a 100A 20-Space 40-Circuit Homeline panel with a main disconnect switch. I moved a 2-pole breaker from the main panel and installed a 100A breaker to power the new sub panel. I won't need to worry about the need for more space in the future. Question.

I'd like to run a 220 line in the garage and move all the existing outlets to the new sub panel. Do I only need to run one cable from the main box to the sub panel?
