Brenda Cárdenas is Wisconsin’s newest poet laureate. As the state’s ambassador for poetry, the Milwaukee native hopes to inspire creativity through workshops, projects and meeting with young people.

As Wisconsin’s newest poet laureate, Brenda Cárdenas is traveling around the state with a mission: inspiring creativity through ekphrastic poetry.

The award-winning Poet Laureate of Colorado, Andrea Gibson, died Monday morning, according to a Facebook post by their family.Andrea Gibson was a poet, author and ambassador of the arts. Gibson became the state's 10th Poet Laureate in 2023,

The poems of Janae Lu, the 2024-25 Seattle Youth Poet Laureate (YPL), have that ability. Lu celebrated the June 25 release of her debut chapbook, “In All Spaces Liminal,” amid the charm of the family-owned Brick & Mortar Books during a reading facilitated by Seattle Arts & Lectures (SAL).
