Last season, Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick wanted his players to play like "banshees" on defense. Now, they've released one of the most aggressive banshees from last season.

Goodwin was waived by the Lakers Sunday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Goodwin will have to explore opportunities elsewhere after being waived to create space for the Lakers' recent addition, Marcus Smart.

Earlier Sunday, Los Angeles waived 28-year-old guard Shake Milton, who spent 30 games with the Lakers in 2024–25 after being acquired from the Nets. Milton's $3 million salary was set to become guaranteed before the move, per ESPN's Shams Charania.

Smart, who cleared waivers after reaching a buyout agreement with the Washington Wizards, signed a two-year, $11 million deal with the Lakers, sources previously told ESPN. L.A. waived guards Shake Milton and Jordan Goodwin to have access to the biannual exception to sign Smart,

Goodwin joined the Lakers midway through and was a solid piece. He started five of the 29 games he played for the purple and gold, and he also appeared in a handful of playoff games. With the Lakers, Goodwin averaged 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 38.2% from beyond the arc.
