Google is migrating Chrome browser extensions to a new specification that limits the functionality of ad blockers.

Google is disabling the original uBlock Origin ad blocker for more Chrome browser users, alongside other extensions that are no longer supported as the browser migrates to its new extension specification,

Google Chrome users have been warned to delete 16 “malicious” browser extensions that could lead to a security threat and “fraud” at the hands of a prolific “threat actor.”

This change is part of Chrome's migration to the new extension specification, Manifest V3, which Google states is designed to enhance privacy and security. Users on social media platforms have reported receiving notifications in Chrome indicating that certain extensions are "no longer supported" and have been turned off.

Google continues its rollout of gradually disabling uBlock Origin and other Manifest V2-based extensions in the Chrome web browser as part of its efforts to push users to Manifest V3-based extensions.
