Final probe report on Air India plane crash will come out with root causes and recommendations, refrain from spreading premature narratives, says the investigation bureau

India’s AAIB and pilots’ union slammed a US report claiming a pilot cut fuel in the Air India crash. They called the claims false, urging restraint and patience until the final report is released.

Following the Wall Street Journal report on the Air India AI171 crash, aviation expert Sanjay Lazar on Thursday (July 17, 2025) expressed concern over the leak of investigation details in the United States.

The deadly Air India crash last month has renewed a decades-old debate in the aviation industry over installing video cameras monitoring airline pilot actions to complement the cockpit voice and flight data recorders already used by accident investigators.

According to the WSJ report citing the audio recording, the first officer, expressing surprise, asked the senior pilot why he moved the switches to ‘cutoff’. He, then, panicked.

Aviation expert Ehsan Khalid stated on Saturday that the preliminary findings of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) indicate that the Air India crash in Ahmedabad occurred due to a loss of power in both engines.
