An Air India Boeing 787, the same kind of plane that crashed 4 days earlier, was forced to turn around after a midair "technical issue," the airline says.

An Air India Boeing 787-8 flight headed for New Delhi returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff Monday because of a "technical issue," Indian media reported.

As per flight tracking data, at least nine Air India flights that were to be operated using the Boeing 787 aircraft have been cancelled so far on Tuesday.

Claims from this single event could potentially exceed the entire annual premium. The crash of Air India flight AI171 on 12 June, which killed 241 passengers and crew, is set to intensify pressure on the already hardening global aviation reinsurance market.
