An 8.8-magnitude earthquake, one of the largest in the past century, struck off the coast of Russia this week, prompting tsunami warnings worldwide.

The Washington State Emergency Management Division confirmed that the tsunami advisory for Washington state had been cancelled by mid-morning Wednesday.

The National Weather service issued a tsunami advisory for the coast of Washington on Tuesday following a magnitude 8.8 earthquake off Russia's far eastern coast. Portions of British Columbia along with the coasts of Oregon and California were included in the advisory,
