A gold necklace with Jimmie “Jay” Lee’s name on it was found with human remains in Carroll County this weekend and authorities have confirmed the body as the missing University of Mississippi student and well-known member of Oxford’s LGBTQ+ community.

Police in Oxford, Mississippi, have confirmed that remains found last week are those of University of Mississippi student Jimmy “Jay” Lee, who disappeared more than two years ago.

Authorities discovered human remains over the weekend in Carroll County. However, officials have not yet confirmed whether the remains belong to the missing University of Mississippi student, who was also a prominent member of Oxford’s LGBTQ+ community.

University of Mississippi student Jimmie “Jay” Lee was reported missing in July 2022 after his mother told campus police that she had not heard from him. Just a few weeks later, fellow student and recent graduate Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr.
