TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Fire Department said a 16-year-old boy is dead following a drowning at Zink Lake Saturday morning.

Zink Lake opening up to the public now means the return of water sports to the Arkansas River. The Tulsa Rowing Club can now return to its boathouse instead of going all the way to Catoosa.

It’s been nearly four years since the city began reconstructing Zink Dam, and eight years since the public approved tens of millions of dollars for the project.

The City of Tulsa is revealing the name and logo for the whitewater area on Zink Lake. The city says it expects the Wave Park and Zink Lake to pull in thousands of people every year.

Updated and revised ordinances are necessary to allow expected activities in the Zink Lake and future South Tulsa Lake. The Tulsa City Council voted in favor of the proposed ordinances.
