LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two Southwest Airlines flight attendants are being treated for injuries after a passenger jet heading to Las Vegas from Southern California took a dramatic plunge shortly after takeoff Friday, the airline and passengers said.

Several passengers of a Southwest Airlines jet headed from Burbank to Las Vegas say their pilot had to “aggressively” dive to avoid a midair collision with another plane shortly after takeoff on Friday afternoon.

A Southwest flight out of Burbank airport experienced a steep drop which injured two flight attendants Friday. The pilot told passengers he was avoiding a collision.

Passengers said the pilot of a Southwest Airlines flight had to "dive aggressively" in order to avoid a midair collision over Burbank.

Southwest Airlines Company (NYSE:LUV) shares are trading relatively flat on Friday. On Wednesday, the company reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of 43 cents per share, which missed the Street consensus estimate of 51 cents per share.
