In his monologue opening Monday’s “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert ,” Colbert spoke about Trump’s exulting over CBS ‘s sudden decision to axe the show. “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings,” the U.S. president wrote on Truth Social on Friday.
In case anyone worried Stephen Colbert was going to go quietly into the night after CBS canceled The Late Show, it’s clear he won’t. In an early clip posted from the show, Colbert responded to President Trump’s gleeful social media post about his firing.
Stephen Colbert had a short response to Donald Trump after the president celebrated the cancelation of his show: “Go f– yourself. Colbert broke the news on Thursday that CBS will cancel “The Late Show” next May at the end of the 2025-2026 season — Colbert will also depart the network at that time.
The award-winning news comedy show, which propelled Jon Stewart to fame and saw him return as a one-day-a-week anchor in 2024, is adding a new rotating host to its lineup.
Colbert's show is ending because of institutions that "have chosen not to fight the vengeful and vindictive actions of our pubic hair-doodling commander-in-chief," Stewart said.
