Sovereignty is the winner of the 151st Kentucky Derby after a thrilling finish over favorite Journalism to cap the first leg of the 2025 Triple Crown. Baeza finished third and Final Gambit finished fourth.

Sovereignty’s victory was the second in the Kentucky Derby for trainer William Mott, who saddled Country House, who won the 2019 Run for the Roses via disqualification. Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. rode his first Kentucky Derby winner. The order of finish for the 151st Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, was:

A few rows back sat seven-time winner Bob Baffert, in Louisville for his first Derby after a three-year ban. Across the aisle from Baffert, Michael McCarthy, trainer of this year’s favorite, Journalism, sat beside his daughter, Stella.
