A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was arrested and charged with child abuse in Iredell County on Wednesday. Officer Matthew Michael was arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to Iredell County Sheriff’s Office records.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was arrested on child abuse charges while off duty, Chief Johnny Jennings said in a statement Wednesday evening. Officer Matthew Michael, 48, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse and placed on unpaid leave, the chief said.

Matthew Michael was arrested on two counts of misdemeanor child abuse allegedly involving a juvenile member of his family.

Jeremy Lane Parham, 39, of Mooresville and Kendra Bunton Hood, 47, of China Grove were arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Jan 24. According to a press release, deputies responded to 985 Linwood Road for a welfare check on a vehicle with an unconscious driver and passenger.

Deputies say trees fell on power lines and a parked car, causing damage to both. State Highway Patrol and Duke Energy were called to help.
