The new hydrothermal feature is about one mile north of the Norris Geyser Basin within a region called the Roadside Springs thermal area .

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — A new thermal vent spewing steam in the air at Yellowstone National Park is gaining attention, mainly because it's visible from a road rather than any significant change in the park famous for its thousands of geysers, hot springs and bubbling mud pots.

Today, Yellowstone remains a place of low volcanic risk. Sure, there are sometimes small explosions stoked by hot water and steam. But it's mostly thermal pools and awesome geysers, reminding us of what could potentially awake, one distant day.
