President Donald Trump has long worked to bring peace to Ukraine, but his recent major policy adjustments in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s reticence toward peace could finally present Trump’s chance to make a deal,
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas says she wants to press Russia to consider a ceasefire by signaling that the European Union and the United States will together support Ukraine.
The European Commission is proposing a record 2-trillion-euro budget for 2028-2034, boosting funds for Ukraine, defense, and foreign policy. But tough negotiations lie ahead as richer EU states balk at higher spending.
"On one hand, it is very positive that President Trump is taking on a strong stance on Russia... On the other hand, 50 days is a very long time if we see that they are killing innocent civilians," EU Special Envoy Kaja Kallas said.
