After decades of negotiations, nearly every country in the world had agreed to voluntarily cut the carbon emissions that triggered the climate crisis.

At the COP21 U.N. climate summit in Paris, 195 countries agreed to adopt the Paris Agreement. On December 12, they negotiated the text of the document and agreed to adopt it without objection.

This is the second time Trump has pulled the US out of the Paris Agreement, the landmark deal agreed upon in 2015 to limit global warming to well below 2°C above the pre-industrial average.
