Police fatally shot a man in Queens on Tuesday night after he approached a precinct station house, pointed a gun at an officer outside and refused repeated commands to drop the weapon, according to the NYPD.

The man showed up outside the NYPD’s 111th Precinct stationhouse on the corner of 215th St. and Northern Blvd. in Bayside armed with a gun around 7 p.m., sources said.

A 79-year-old man armed with a gun was shot outside of the 111th precinct station house in Bayside, Queens on Tuesday night, and later died at the hospital.

Both the officer and man, whom police identified as 35-year-old Edwin Rivera, were expected to recover, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a press briefing. She did not identify the officer, but said he is a detective in the department’s Emergency Service Unit.
