It was in 1858 that the organization moved into what became known as the Masonic Hall building -- its first permanent headquarters -- at 416 N. Main St.
Built in 1785, Masons' Hall on East Franklin Street is the oldest continuously used Masonic Lodge in the US. Historic Resources has been working with the masons for 5 years to preserve the building.
The hall, which now faces a parking garage on Second Avenue South in downtown Franklin, has served as a community gathering place since 1826, masons say.
