The Republican governor made the request through a memo sent by Richard Dunn, the director of Georgia’s Office of Planning and Budget. The letter touted the state’s “fiscal strength” and said “Governor Kemp has placed our state in a fiscal position to implement the largest tax reduction for Georgia’s citizens in history.”

So far, the 2026 GOP Senate field in Georgia includes state Insurance Commissioner John King and Rep. Buddy Carter among the notable declared candidates. Among those besides Kemp to publicly decline a run are Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Andrew Clyde.
