The film academy had plenty of surprise nominations Thursday for the 97th Oscars. It's to be expected in one of the more wide-open fields in recent history.

James Mangold has directed several awards darlings, including “Ford v Ferrari” and “Walk the Line” but had consistently missed out on a best director nomination, until this year with “A Complete Unknown.” It may have come at the expense of Edward Berger, who missed out on a nod for “Conclave” or Denis Villeneuve for “Dune: Part Two.”

PARK CITY — A Utah crew got to enjoy the spotlight at the Sundance Film Festival during the premiere of the movie "Omaha" Thursday, an experience director Cole Webley called "life altering."

"Omaha," a movie mostly filmed in Utah, had its premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on Thursday. Audiences particularly appreciated the two child actors at the movie's heart.

“Omaha” follows a recently widowed father (John Magaro), who takes his two children (Molly Belle Wright, Wyatt Solis) on a road trip from Hawthorne, Nevada, to Omaha, Nebraska, in a last-ditch effort to rebuild their lives. Utah’s varied terrain served as the perfect backdrop for the family’s multistate trip across the I-80 East.

Along with Colman as Hannah, Jimpa also stars Hyde and partner, editor and producer Bryan Mason’s 19-year-old offspring Aud Mason-Hyde playing Hannah’s teenage child Frances and John Lithgow as their grandfather Jim, the lively, provocative title character.
