For the first time in more than a third of a century, Jacksonville International Airport recorded measurable snow on Wednesday.

Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) is back open after being closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday night until noon Wednesday because of winter storm conditions.

Due to Tuesday's winter weather, Georgia's Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has 350 total delays and 277 total cancelations as of Wednesday morning. The 350 delays include any flights within, into, or out of the airport. The total cancelations include 112 out of Atlanta and 158 into Atlanta.

The ice will create hazardous travel conditions on the roads from western Jacksonville and points north and west. But what about those who have flights booked?

A major winter storm that slammed Texas and blanketed the northern Gulf Coast with record-breaking snow moved east Wednesday, spreading heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain across parts of the Florida Panhandle, Georgia and eastern Carolinas.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A rare winter storm moving through parts of the First Coast brought wintry precipitation including snowfall for mainly Southeast Georgia. Snow partially collapsed a Waycross building, according to Ware County Emergency Management Agency. The building owners estimate a couple hundred thousand dollars in damage.

Dangerous below-freezing temperatures with even colder wind chills were also expected to last over much of the week in the region. Authorities say three people have died in the cold weather.

The NWS said up to 4 inches (10 centimeters) of snow fell in the Houston area. Texas transportation officials said more than 20 snowplows were in use across nearly 12,000 lane miles in the Houston area, which lacks its own city or county plows.
