The Calgary Flames won 5-2 in an inspiring game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night at the Saddledome.

The Buffalo Sabres’ four-game road trip now takes them to Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome for a Thursday night matchup with the Flames. On Tuesday, the Sabres rode their top line to a 3-2 comeback victory in Vancouver, their third win of the season when trailing after two periods.

The Calgary Flames handed the Buffalo Sabres a 5-2 loss, and in the process expanded their wild card lead to three points. The win moved their record to 23-16-7

Bought out by the Buffalo Sabres in the offseason, forward Jeff Skinner jumped at the opportunity to join the Edmonton Oilers when the Stanley Cup finalists came calling. Seven months later, though, things haven't gone as hoped for Skinner, who will face his former teammates for the first time Saturday when the Oilers host the Sabres.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff might have been better off declining penalties Thursday night. Scoreless on a season-high six power-play chances, the Sabres gave up a pair of shorthanded goals in a 5-2 loss in Calgary against a Flames team that came in ranked 30th in the NHL on the penalty kill.

Thursday night the Buffalo Sabres will confront the hometown hockey heroes in Cowtown, encountering the Calgary Flames.  Puck drop is slated for 9 pm ET live from the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Jakob Pelletier's deflection early in the third period snapped a tie and the Calgary Flames went on to beat Buffalo 5-2 on Thursday night in in Scotiabank Saddledome.

Although the Calgary Flames were expected to miss the playoffs for a third straight campaign, the team continues to hang around in 2024-25.

Calgary entered the game with the 30th-ranked penalty kill in the league but went a perfect 6-for-6 against the Sabres.

Calgary’s Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri each recorded a goal and two assists. Jakob Pelletier added a goal and an assist, while Yegor Sharangovich and Mikael Backlund netted the late empty-netters. Flames goalie Dustin Wolf turned away 32-of-34 shots.
