ABUJA, Nigeria — The death toll from a shooting at a mosque in northwestern Nigeria has risen to 50, a local official said Wednesday. Gunmen stormed the mosque in the town of Unguwan Mantau, in Katsina state, during morning prayers on Tuesday, according to lawmaker Aminu Ibrahim.

Gunmen killed at least 30 people in an attack on a mosque in northwestern Nigeria earlier this week, according to a resident and a lawmaker, with another 20 people killed in neighbouring villages.

Gunmen attacked a mosque and homes in Katsina, Nigeria, killing 50 people and abducting around 60. The assault took place during Fajr prayers in Unguwan Mantau, where armed men opened fire and set homes ablaze.
