Amtrak Cascades unveiled the design of new trains joining its fleet in 2026, covering routes spanning Vancouver, British Columbia; Bellingham, Washington; and Portland, Oregon.

National Geographic released a list on Monday of the eight most beautiful train stations in the United States, including one Portland landmark.

Amtrak operated the Pioneer route from 1977 to 1997. Before Amtrak, which was founded in 1971, there was regular passenger rail service through Northeastern Oregon for many decades.

The report recommends restoring long-distance passenger rail service to Eastern Oregon. Passenger rail ended in the region in 1997 after Amtrak’s Pioneer line was discontinued.
