A seismologist from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre has said it may take “weeks” to see how the ongoing earthquakes disrupting Santorini and other Greek islands evolve, warning that the disruption seen so far could amount to foreshocks ahead of a larger quake.

Anafi Island in Greece has become the third Greek island to enter a state of emergency as powerful earthquake tremors intensify in waters near the popular tourist destination of Santorini in recent days.

Earlier this month the UK Foreign Office issued travel advice for British tourists in the area - with thousands of earthquakes reported in recent weeks

Seismologists have noted that the epicentre of the earthquakes is steadily drifting northward in the direction of Amorgos.
