The marine photographer who captured the footage said it could be the world's first recorded sighting of a black seadevil alive in broad daylight near the ocean surface.

The black devil fish is described as "a true predator of the depths" that uses "symbiotic bioluminescent bacteria as bait to lure its prey, in the same way as in the popular movie Finding Nemo."

Marine researchers were out looking sharks off the Canary Islands when they found something quite unexpected -- a humpback angler fish known as a "black sea monster." It was the only known sighting of the deep-sea fish on the surface of the ocean.
