Hoorah for some positive women's health news! A new endometriosis pill has been made available on the NHS in England, in what's being a called a “first-of-its-kind” step forward in treating the debilitating disease.

The first daily pill for treating endometriosis symptoms has been approved for use on the NHS in England and Wales - but only for patients who have tried all other options. Endometriosis affects 1.5 million women in the UK, causing pain and extreme tiredness as a result of tissue similar to the womb lining growing elsewhere in the body.

A daily pill for endometriosis will be offered to around 1,000 women on the NHS, marking a “step-change” in treatment for the debilitating condition. The tablet combines three hormones and can be taken at home, reducing the need for women to travel to a clinic.

Managing debilitating symptoms for a condition that has no cure or universal treatment is almost impossible – and it's the reality for the 1.5 million women and those born female with endometriosis in the UK.

The NHS has approved a new pill that is designed to transform the treatment of endometriosis. The combination drug will help around 1,000 women every year in England who suffer from the debilitating condition.
