Thomas Irwin, 73, of Indianapolis, was last seen on Jan. 15, 2024, while hiking the Petroglyph Point Train in the national park located in southwestern Colorado. His family contacted the park the next day, and a search and rescue operation began, the National Park Service said in a news release on Monday.

Mesa Verde National Park service rangers found the remains of Thomas Irwin, who is from Indianapolis, on Feb. 28. Irwin had been missing for a year.

INDIANAPOLIS — On Friday, National Park Service Rangers located the remains of a missing Indianapolis man. Thomas Irwin of Indianapolis, Indiana was last seen on January 15, 2024, while hiking the Petroglyph Point Trail in Mesa Verde National Park.

The remains of a 73-year-old Indianapolis man who went missing more than a year ago while hiking in Colorado’s Mesa Verde National Park have been located, officials said.
