CINCINNATI — The bonobo troop at the Cincinnati Zoo is celebrating a new addition. The zoo announced on Monday that 18-year-old Gilda gave birth to a baby on Sunday morning.

A bonobo at the Cincinnati Zoo bit one of their care team member's thumb while they were delivering food and medicine to the troop, causing a "complete amputation," the zoo said in a statement.

Officials said the zoo is reviewing the incident to understand more about what led up to it and the Jungle Trials habitat will be closed to the public Friday. This story has been updated to add video.
