Around 10:45 p.m., police said a man standing on the tracks was hit and killed by an Amtrak train as the train was approaching Cary Amtrak Station.

An Amtrak train was traveling from Charlotte to Raleigh late Wednesday night when a man was hit by the train as it was approaching Cary.

A CSX coal train derailed near Enfield, North Carolina, on Sunday, blocking the main route between Florida and the Northeast.

Amtrak says a train crashed into vehicles that were too close to the tracks near Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.

Amtrak will run special trains from Raleigh and Cary south to Pinehurst all four mornings of the championship rounds, June 13 through 16, and return each evening.

Raleigh police said they and Amtrak are working to determine how the cars came to be on the tracks. Piedmont trains 75 and 72 traveling between Raleigh and Charlotte were stopped in both directions.
