More than six inches of rain fell in the San Antonio region overnight, surpassing the city’s average rainfall for June and July combined.
The abrupt closure comes after the city experienced record-breaking rainfall in the morning hours on Thursday. Between 3 and 8 inches of rain occurred in Bexar County, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy rains blanketed the region, causing power outages, high-water rescues and at least four fatalities.
With heavy rain pouring in overnight and throughout Thursday afternoon, Bexar County, the City of Live Oak, the City of Converse announced park closures due to weather and flooding.
