PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Table Rock fire has grown to more than 8,600 acres, according to the South Carolina Forestry Commission. The Table Rock fire approximately quadrupled in size from Wednesday to Friday.

The search for missing Stephanie Womacks was called off after the Table Rock wildfire ignited on Friday, March 21, according to a press release from the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies initially discovered the blaze while searching for Womacks.

Crews in Pickens County said the Table Rock Complex fire nearly doubled in size Wednesday and is now more than 8,600 acres large.

The call for action comes after both the large Myrtle Beach and Table Rock complex wildfires were caused by humans.

Investigators said the massive wildfire, which started at Table Rock State Park on March 21, was the result of a “negligent act” by four teenage hikers. The young men involved in the incident have been identified. Pickens County Sheriff Tommy Blankenship said he has been contacted by people in the community about charges as well.

Mandatory evacuations are being ordered in Pickens County, South Carolina, as the Table Rock Fire continues to burn.

Crews are hard at work as the Table Rock State Park wildfire continued to burn on Monday. The wildfire has burned more than 1,156 acres. So far, 0% of the fire has been contained. The South Carolina Forestry Commission said around 100 crew members have been helping fight the fire.
