Nearly two months after President Trump took the extraordinary step of deploying the National Guard to Los Angeles to quell public unrest over immigration raids, the Pentagon on Wednesday announced that it was withdrawing more than a thousand troops.

Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement that roughly 250 California National Guard troops will remain in Los Angeles to protect federal personnel and property.

The Pentagon said it was ending the deployment of more National Guard troops that were sent to Los Angeles to respond to anti-ICE protests.
