Sil, best known for playing Park Mal Soon in the second season of Netflix’s Squid Game, has died. She was 81. She had been diagnosed with stomach cancer just three months before her death, the Korea Herald reported.

Squid Game and Train to Busan actress Lee Joo-sil has died, aged 81. South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reports that Lee passed away in her family home in Uijeongbu of stomach cancer, a diagnosis that she had received in November.

Lee's death comes shortly after she disclosed her stomach cancer diagnosis three months earlier. Lee's diagnosis marked a painful return to the world of illness for the actress, who had previously been told in 1993 that she had Stage 4 breast cancer and had just a year to live.
