A federal judge has halted President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to block international students from coming to Harvard University. The temporary restraining order issued late Thursday by US District Judge Allison Burroughs came hours after the university urged the judge to step in on an emergency basis to block a proclamation Trump signed a day earlier that suspends international visas for new students.

A federal judge late on Thursday issued a temporary restraining order against President Donald Trump’s recently signed executive order banning Harvard from admitting foreign students. U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs’ order is an extension of a previous order issued against the administration in May after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) attempted to revoke Harvard’s eligibility to host students on foreign visas.

The Trump administration has stripped billions of dollars in federal funding from Harvard, alleging that the university is not doing enough to address antisemitism on campus. Mr. Trump said Monday he's considering rerouting $3 billion in Harvard grants to U.S. trade schools across the country.
