FERRUM, Va. (WDBJ) - With more than 82% of the baseball writers’ vote, Southwest Virginia’s own Billy Wagner has been elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Ferrum College, where Wagner played baseball and football, held a private watch party Tuesday night to celebrate Wagner’s accomplishments and one of the biggest moments of his career.

Miller School baseball coach Billy Wagner, known to the outside world as the best lefthanded closer in MLB history, is a Baseball Hall of Famer.

Wagner had a 1.98 earned run average and struck out 22 of the 56 batters he faced in his 15 games for the Red sox in 2009.

COOPERSTOWN, NY – In his tenth and final year on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, Ferrum’s Billy Wagner has been named to the 2025 class. Wagner is known as one of the greatest closers of all time in Major League Baseball. He is now the ninth closer elected.
