Hello. The capital of Bequia is Port Elizabeth not Kingstown (which is on St Vincent). If you are visiting Bequia then Princess Margaret beach is about 15 minutes gentle walk from the town.

My husband and I are visiting Bequia in December as part of a cruise ship tour. We don't like crowded places and so would like to know if it's possible to hire a taxi to take us to a less touristy beach?

Yes, a taxi could take you to lower bay beach. Better yet, a water taxi. It won’t be as crowded if the pathway isn’t fixed yet and people can’t walk it. I haven’t been there when the cruise ships are in but there are also less popular beaches that are supposed to be beautiful but more Waves and current . I didn’t visit them because of the sargasso seaweed in the summer. Ask if it’s gone and consider the Bequia Beach Hotel for your day trip if the beach is clear. You would not want to visit if there is sargassum, since it smells and is very ugly. There’s no sargasso at Elizabeth or Lower Bay.
